Landscape Design Construction Maintenance

My name is Jason Donnelly, I am a qualified Horticulturalist and Landscape Designer, I specialize in creating native gardens using Australian plants.

“I create and design gardens using Australian Native plants selected for their beauty and resilience, my philosophy is the right plant for the right place.”

I hold a Diploma in Conservation and Land Management (Resource Management), a Certificate III in Landscape Horticulture, Certificate IV in Landscape Design. I have been working in the Gardening/Landscaping/Environmental Industry since 1995.

Our mission at Austechniques is simple: to provide high-quality services in a timely manner. We cater to each project’s and client's specific needs. Communication with the client is very important so we can achieve the best outcomes.

Sustainability and minimizing our impact on the environment is very high on our priority list. Our aim is to work with nature and provide clients with solutions that limit the burden on our ecosystems. The hard landscaping component of the design should sit lightly on the earth both visually and in terms of its environmental impact. Our preference is for gardens with minimal hard landscaping, using natural and recycled materials, where the planting design is the dominant feature of the landscape. Gardens that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also promote and provide habitat for native fauna.

Our core belief is that conservation and sustainability starts were we live.

We hope you’ll find what you’re looking for. For more information or general inquiries, feel free to get in touch today.

What We Provide

LANDSCAPE DESIGN

We can design a garden to suit your lifestyle and taste. Natural style or Formal. From a simple site consultation with Do It Yourself recommendations, to a full landscape/construction plan. Hand drawn designs to a Computer Aided Design. We have been working in gardens for over 20 years and keep up with the latest innovations. The garden should compliment the property and be designed to compliment the architecture and style. No two designs are the same.

CONSTRUCTION

We can bring your ideas and our designs to life. Using the latest techniques. We are adaptable and ready for any challenges that may need to be overcome. From hard landscaping such as retaining walls, rock work, paving, paths, water features, decks and outdoor furniture, to soft landscaping such a planting, mulching and turf.

MAINTENANCE

We have a vast knowledge of plants and maintenance issues that can arise. We should after spending 20 years in the industry. A twice year garden tune up or a more intense maintenance schedule. The most sustainable practices are always the first option.

GROW YOUR OWN

We believe that every garden should have some sort of food production. Whether it be a simple pot with herbs, a fruit tree or two, or a large scale vegetable patch or orchard. We all need to contribute to reducing our carbon footprint. Nothing tastes better than home grown. The food we eat accounts for about thirty per cent of our carbon footprint. Growing food at home and managing our food waste is one way we can make a positive contribution to our planet. By choosing organic growing techniques and making good plant choices we not only reduce our impact, we also help to create safe habitats for insects, native birds, lizards and frogs. Embracing Australian native edible plants is another way to garden in harmony with the country we live in.

WATER FEATURES

Wherever practical we try and introduce a water feature into our designs. Not only does it bring in beneficial birds and insects and other fauna. It also has a calming and relaxing effect on the occupants. Formal or informal style will depend on the individual property or design.

TURF AND GRASS INSTALLATION

As a keen Horticulturist I love plants. I like to use a lot of plants in my designs, and minimize hard landscaping. Permeable surfaces are good for the environment and quite often this includes constructing turfed and grassed areas. Turfed areas are great for children and animals to play on and cool the landscape.

IRRIGATION

Most of our designs are planted with resilient and drought tolerant plants that require very low water. However some designs require irrigation for the plants to thrive and perform at their peak. Turf nearly always requires some form of irrigation. Only the most efficient delivery system should be implemented.

CUSTOM FURNITURE AND INSTALLATIONS

Quite often a custom design and built letterbox or furniture item such as seating will enhance the overall design and appearance of a garden. It is a good way of making the project unique and individual. Recycled materials are most commonly used to enhance the sustainability and reduce the embodied energy used for the project.
